I have a question for you…Do you know your “numbers?” You know, the ones that give an indication of your overall health: your blood pressure, blood sugar, weight, body mass index (BMI), etc.? Where did you get those? Why did you get those? Because you had a problem and now you are aware of it? Because you get regular checkups to “keep an eye on it?” Now, let me ask you this: What is the state of health of your spine and nervous system? Do you know how healthy your spine is? When was the last time you had it checked? Why does this even matter?
Well, here is something else to consider. How does your heart know when and how fast to beat? How does the body know when something is too hot or cold to touch? How does the body know when and how to raise or lower its temperature? How does the body know what to do and when to do it? What controls all these functions? These things and many more are control by the “Master Gland.” No, not the pituitary we all learned about in school. The other master…the nervous system. This process is happening at a very fast pace. I call it the original “super-information highway,” as the internet was once called. The brain connects with the body by way of the spinal cord and the nerves to monitor all the activities and sends orders for changes to be made. This exchange of data is constant. It never rests. You don’t have to consciously think of making your heart beat, exchanging oxygen in your lungs, or even about digesting your lunch. Your body does it subconsciously because the brain is monitoring it and keeping tabs on everything, all the time. However, these control and monitoring activities can be disrupted causing inefficiencies of these pathways when subluxations are present. Over time, subluxations can result in degeneration of the spinal joints leading to chronic aches, pains, muscle tension, and affect other organs connected by these nerves.
Since October is designated as National Chiropractic Month, be aware of your spinal health and get your spine examined by a qualified chiropractor. Even if treatment is not pursued or warranted at least inform yourself of another aspect of your health. Dr. Fulkerson and staff of Tulia Family Chiropractic are here to help you find answers to your health. Call 806-995-4699 to set up your appointment.
